Bekal Beach
Bekal Beach is one of the most fascinating beaches in Kerala and is situated near the small town of Bekal in Kasaragod District. Bekal beach is one of the most popular travel spot in Kasargod and is popular for the historic Bekal Fort situated by the side of the beach. Due to the presence of this Fort, the beach is also called as Bekal Beach Fort.
The giant keyhole shaped Bekal Fort is one of the most amazing attractions of this beach and is visited by travelers from different places throughout the year. The scene of the Bekal beach from the top of the Fort is something that is worth viewing and travelers are seen watching and exploring the beauty of the beach from the top of the Fort at Bekal. The Bekal Fort beach is rather a calm and beautiful beach where you can spend a good time alone or with your friends and family.
There are a lot of things to see and attractions worth visiting at the Bekal Beach most of these attractions are associated with the Fort. You can see two sculptures of Theyyam created using laterite on the beach and also a rock garden at the parking area which has been utilized with laterite boulders of various sizes. Various trees has also been planted in the beach area which is aimed at making the beach look more beautiful in the future.
You can also enjoy the beauty of the coastline and get a panoramic view of the Bekal Fort by taking a walk along the walkway that has been specially prepared for the travellers. Taking a walk along the walkway is something that will give you more insights about the amazing beauty of the beach and the Fort.
In the evening time, the beach becomes more beautiful as its gets illuminated with electric bulbs and also helps the tourists in spending more time at the beach during the evening. For those who are tired of exploring the beach, there is facility for them to take some rest. The Multi shed and Eru madam (Tree house) at the beach helps the tourists to take rest and enjoy the beauty of the beach and also the breeze that comes from. Seating arrangements are also being provided to the tourist to take rest and enjoy the beauty of the sea and its waves.
If you are visiting Bekal Beach with your children, then they will be able to enjoy the trip more as there is a children’s park at Bekal beach for children below the age of 14. The beach is also one of the most clean and tidest one in Kerala and you can see eco friendly bamboo waste bins all over the beach and well maintained toilets are also available for the tourists.
In order to maintain the cleanliness of the beach, a minimal fee or INR 1 is being collected from the visitors and there is also a minimal amount of parking fee that is being collected. The Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC) is planning to expand this area and bring more developments such as water park, theme park etc.
Bekal is well connected to the other major cities by air, rail and road. The nearest railway station is at Kasaragod and the nearest airport is at Mangalore which is just 50 km away. There are also plenty of resorts, lodges and hotels in and around Bekal which helps you to find the best accommodation with the most modern facilities and amenities.
