Periyar River, Kerala
Periyar River is one of the longest river in Kerala and is one of the major source of drinking water to a large number of villages, cities and towns of Kerala. The Periyar river is also one of the major soucer of electrical power in Kerala and hence this river hold huge importance as far as Kerala is considered.
The river Periyar also flows through a number of major travel spots in Kerala, thereby making those travel destinations look more beautiful and attractive.
The Periyar River originates from the Sivagiri peaks of Sundaramala in the state of Tamil Nadu and is around 244 kilometers long. The Periyar river has got a number of tributaries and some of the major tributaries of river Periyar include Muthirapuzha River, Mullayar River, Cheruthoni River, Perinjankutti River and Edamala River.
The minor tributaries of Periyar river include Muthayar, Perunthuraiar, Cheruthony, Kattappanayar, Chinnar etc.
