The waterfalls is situated 36 km from the district center of Pathanamthitta, and is technically located in the Vechoochira Panchayat of Ranni Taluk. Vechoochira is the one shore of the waterfall and Kudamurutty is the other one. One need to take the route from Ranni to Athikkayam, then to Kudamuruty and finally to Perunthenaruvi to visit the waterfall.

The literal meaning for Perunthenaruvi is the stream with great honey. In Malayalam, Perunthen means “Great honey” and aruvi means “Stream”. Geographicalla, the waterfall is located on Sahyadri range of the Western Ghats.

Even though the waterfall is not the one with the greatest height in Kerala, it is known for its wide area. There is enough area by the side of the waterfalls, where you can enjoy a perfect one day trip with your dear ones.

The Perunthenaruvi falls moves further forward before uniting it with the famous river Pamba. The Perunthenaruvi waterfall is well known for its amazing natural beauty and at times, it can also be dangerous.

Basically there are two main waterfalls at Perunthenaruvi. The first one is the Panamkudantha and the second one is the Padivathil. The Panamkudantha falls at a height of 300 meters and the Padivathil has a height of 200 meters.
